Bring Standard-Based PBL to Your Classroom
Linda has designed her PBL workshops to be flexible and thorough. The results will speak for themselves! Most importantly, teachers develop useful, new curriculum, related to the Illinois Common Core learning standards for use in their classrooms.
At a recent workshop, Marengo HS teachers developed PBL topics including:
- Corporate Ethics (Business)
- Vegan Diet Deficiencies (Health Science Technology, Family and Consumer Sciences, Science)
- Misdiagnosis in an Auto Body Shop (Technology & Egineering Education)
- NoXrsize Diet Deaths (Health Science Technology, Family and Consumer Sciences, Science)
- Promotion and Absenteeism (All content areas)
- Abstracting Premature Birth (Health Science Technology, Science)
|
A Typical Workshop
- Participants are provided an overview of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) and its application: the Problem Statement 7-Step Process, classroom management, and setting the problem.
- The participants immerse themselves in a real-life scenario and determine possible outcomes. This excercise leads to a lively discussion about the possible solutions.
- Participants determine the most practical solution through research and collaboration.

After one session with Linda, our teachers have begun to utilize ideas for PBL activities in their regular classrooms and have shared the ideas and outcomes with teachers in other courses.David Engelbrecht
