Previously, the business education area had been named Business, Marketing, and Management. That name did not accurately reflect the areas in which business teachers teach. Therefore, ISBE Principal Consultant for Business Carol Brooks announced the name change at the annual November 2007 State Conference of the Illinois Business Education Association. This CTE content area is now known as Business, Marketing, & Computer Education. Appropriately, this name is currently the same as is identified on the Illinois teaching certificate for business educators.

The CRI Update—workshops and presentations

During the 2007 calendar year Diane Mahinda, Facilitator for BM&CE from the Illinois Office of Educational Services, gave presentations and workshops throughout the state of Illinois regarding the resources of the Curriculum Revitalization Initiative lesson plan library and related resources located within the www.ilcte.org web site. Teachers are seeing the value of these resources and how they can map their curriculum with the Illinois Learning Standards.

Though many teachers have been made aware of these resources, many are not. Call or email Diane Mahinda, 800-252-4822 ext. 228 or dmahinda@ioes.org to arrange a presentation. Remember: these workshops/presentations are available for all CTE teachers. In addition, follow-up workshops are available.

Watch for mini-webcasts in January and February 2008. Mini webcasts are scheduled for the novice to experienced MS Office Suite users. Possibly CTE teachers who do not use their computers for the MS Office Suite on a regular basis will find these training sessions valuable in connection with the CRI Lesson Plan Library!
