| History of
Curriculum Revitalization Initiative (CRI) for Business, Marketing, and
Computer Education |
What Happened in FY 2006-2007
During the summer of 2006, 89 lessons in the BMM area were written by business teachers from around the State of Illinois. Thus far, there are more than 60 business lessons of the 215 published lessons in the CRI Lesson Library. Many lessons from the other CTE areas cross over, which means they could be used in part or in full within the context of some business subjects.
In January 2007, the first Lesson Library CD was made available to CTE teachers. This CD had 101 lessons in the CTE program areas of Business, Family & Consumer Sciences, Health Sciences Technology, and Technology & Engineering Education. Today there are over 200 lessons available for CTE teachers via the web site.
|
What Do the Lessons Include?
The business lessons included in the CDs and on the web are written in the broad areas of Technology, World of Work, Basic Skills, Entrepreneurship and Business Concepts, and Communications. Initial lessons have been written at the orientation level--ninth and tenth grades
|
For What Audience Are the Lessons Written?
The orientation-level lessons may be used in one of the three approved orientation-level courses in Business, Marketing, & Management--Keyboarding, Computer Applications, and/or Business & Technology Concepts. These lessons can also be used as review for skill level courses—courses at the 11 & 12 grade levels.

What Business Teachers Can Do!
Business teachers, please try out these lessons, where appropriate, in your classes, and give us feedback regarding the success of the lesson, how much of the lesson was used, etc. This resource is for you, and we want to know how well it worked and how it can be improved!
Please send your responses to Diane Mahinda at dmahinda@ioes.org. Thanks so much for your positive support of this worthy project!

| In May of 2006 individuals from
across Illinois met in Springfield for a Statewide Advisory Committee
meeting. Attendees consisted of personnel representing business and
industry, secondary business educators, post-secondary business educators,
Education for Employment system directors, a representative from the
Illinois State Board of Education, and staff from the Illinois Office of
Educational Services. The purpose was to gather information regarding the
effectiveness of business and information technology education when applied
to the workforce and post-secondary education. The results of this meeting
are available for download. |
| Using the input from the
Statewide Advisory Committee for Business Education, a curriculum framework
was developed and subsequent lessons identified as critical need for
infusion at the orientation-level. Based upon the highly successful
Agricultural Education model, business teachers from around the state began
writing lessons from those identified during the summer of 2006.
Resources are available via
ISBE web site and the IOES
library has cataloged curriculum materials available.
